We are interested to participate in a project on strategies to inhibit methane emissions in agricultural systems by reducing methane emissions from ruminant animals
The speciality of the Kielanowski Institute of Animal Physiology and Nutrition, Polish Academy of Sciences is animal nutrition and physiology. The dominant research direction in animal nutrition concerns the processes of digestion and metabolism of nutrients in monogastric and ruminant animals, especially in relation to young animals. The issues of nutritional physiology are accompanied by research in the field of feed science, covering the plant components of compound feeds, taking into account their chemical composition and the content and significance of bioactive substances. There is also important research on the role played by symbiotic micro-organisms (bacteria and protozoa) in the gastrointestinal tract, including studies on their species diversity and ability to degrade feed ingredients. The aim of this research is both to improve the utilisation of nutrients, the influence of the composition of diets on the development of the digestive tract and the activity of its microbiota, and to strive to improve the health-promoting properties of animal products. Over the years, research into the nutritional and energy value of feedstuffs has formed the basis of nutritional recommendations for various species of farm animals (pigs, poultry, fur animals) and laboratory animals. These studies are used by breeders, feed companies, students and researchers.
