The institute, which was established in Erzurum as the Agricultural Research Institute affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture in 1969, later passed many regulations and finally became a basin establishment with the re-organization of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in 1987 and was named the Eastern Anatolia Agricultural Research Institute. In the latest regulation, our country was divided into 5 main Agricultural Research Extension Regions in terms of ecological characteristics with the Ministry's Approvals aiming to "rearrange the division of labor between them in a manner that will meet the needs of the country and prevent duplications" and our institute is one of these regions, Eastern Anatolia (Cold Land).
