UTAEM has been pursuing and delivering a number of research projects with the experts through four main research subjects in agricultural irrigation and land reclamation, climate change and agricultural ecology, soil science and plant nutrition, and agricultural economics. Also, our center has a comprehensive soil, water and plant laboratory. In our laboratory, soil fertility, soil physics, soil microbiology, plant, irrigation water and wastewater analyses are investigated thanks to having advanced infrastructure and equipped laboratory, we are capable of conducting soil quality, organic farming, and sustainable agriculture studies.
As a research institute, International Agricultural Research and Training Centre (UTAEM) is a governmental organization and was established under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forest in Izmir, Turkey in 1994. Our center is located in Menemen Plain lying out in Gediz Basin placed in Agean Region western Turkey. Gediz Basin where Menemen Plain takes place has 17500 km2 area, and Menemen Plain having 22000 ha irrigated area, holds an important role in supplying a wide range of agricultural productions such as cotton, wheat, sunflower, maize, vineyard, tomato, alfalfa as well as other types of vegetables and fruits. UTAEM provides training services to experts, farmers, and stakeholders on every topic of agriculture.
IARTC has been playing important role in conducting and leading the research projects in the mentioned areas at both national and international level with the strong leadership and partnership so far. Examples for those involved projects as follows: - LENSES - Learning and action alliances for Nexus environments in an uncertain future – ongoing, - Farming Tools for external nutrient Inputs and water Management (FATIMA) – completed, - Participatory multi-Level EO-Assisted Tools for Irrigation Water Management and Agricultural Decision Support (PLEIADeS) – completed, - Developing Area Evaluation Systems for Climatically Risk Analysis in Agriculture – completed.
